Silangit and Kualanamu Airport are Ready to Support Creative Players, MSMEs and Lake Toba Tourism

22 Feb 2021

The passenger terminal capacity of Silangit Airport is increased to 700,000 passengers / year

Jakarta - Silangit Airport (North Tapanuli) and Kualanamu Airport (Deli Serdang) play an important role in the development of the creative economy and national tourism.

The two airports in North Sumatra are supporting airports for tourism destinations because of their close location to the Lake Toba National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN).

At the end of last week, Saturday, February 20, 2021, President Joko Widodo launched the Lake Toba Creative Buy campaign to encourage the development of creative players and MSMEs in the Lake Toba area to enter the digital platform.

In line with this, PT Angkasa Pura II together with Bank Indonesia prepared a special area to present a journey experience for airplane passengers at Silangit and Kualanamu Airport in supporting the Lake Toba Creative Buy campaign.

"When just landing, passengers can see various local products from creative actors and Lake Toba MSMEs at the arrival terminal. Bank Indonesia and AP II have prepared a location for a gallery or booth as a storefront for local products, which is also equipped with a QR Code to inform about the digital platform for purchasing these products. So, this is a form of a combination of offline and online in the development of creative actors and local MSMEs, "said President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin.

Last week, Friday, February 19, 2021, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga S. Uno landed at Silangit Airport and took a look at the gallery booth displaying various local products.

The Menparekraf also took the time to scan the QR Code in the gallery booth to find out more about the products of UMKM work in the Lake Toba area.

A gallery booth is also available at the domestic arrival terminal of Kualanamu Airport, displaying various local MSME products as well as a special booth to provide information about Gernas BBI and the use of QRIS (QR Code Indonesian Standard).

Muhammad Awaluddin added, "The development of MSMEs is one of AP II's concerns, in which our airport also supports the National Proud Movement campaign in Indonesia, such as at Soekarno-Hatta Airport which provides special booths for UMKM."

Airport development
In order to be optimal in supporting airports for tourism destinations, development at Silangit Airport is carried out in a sustainable manner.

“Silangit Airport is the airport closest to Lake Toba. In other words, Silangit Airport is the main door for domestic and foreign tourists to go directly to the Lake Toba area. Development continues to be carried out in a sustainable manner at this airport, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.

Last year, the development of a passenger terminal at Silangit Airport was completed to increase the capacity to 700,000 passengers / year from the previous 300,000 passengers / year.

As for 2019, the movement of passengers at Silangit Airport was recorded at around 350,000 passengers.

The apron / parking capacity of the aircraft has also been increased to accommodate 6 Boeing 737-800 NG, from the previous 3 aircraft.

Silangit Airport itself has won a number of international awards, including Best Airport By Size and Region (Under 2 Million Passengers in Asia-Pacific) in 2019 from the Airport Council International.

This ACI award was won by Silangit Airport only 3 years after it was officially opened to serve direct flights to and from Jakarta in 2016.
