23 Jan 2020

PRESIDENT Joko Widodo inaugurated four facilities at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, Thursday (1/23) afternoon. The four facilities are Terminal 3, VIP Building, Runway 3, and East-Connection Taxiway.

With the operation of these four facilities, the President hopes that the capacity of the largest airport in Indonesia can increase.

"With the runway 3, we expect management arrangements for take-off and landing to improve so that more capacity. We expect better service," said President Jokowi after the inauguration at the VIP Terminal 3 Building in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The President added that the construction of the east connection taxiway was only carried out at this time after about 35 years ago the west connection taxiway was built.

"Please note that the west connection taxiway was built in 1985 and after that until now the east has just been built now, 35 years have just been built. It should have been built if the west was built so that the (airplane) did not rotate. All this time waiting for the plane turn it, "Jokowi said.

The President said that the density of aircraft passengers at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is now beginning to be seen. Therefore, in order to anticipate the surge in the number of passengers in the future, he ordered that immediately build Terminal 4.

In this regard the President is targeting Terminal 4 of the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport to be completed by the end of 2022 or early 2023.

"Before it is full, it must be prepared first so that the community is served by Soekarno-Hatta Airport and earlier the Director of Angkasa Pura 2 has submitted that the design will be completed as soon as possible so that it can begin immediately and it is expected that by the end of 2022 or by early 2023 we will have a new terminal, "Jokowi said.

On the same occasion, Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi explained that there were a number of advantages with the operation of runway 3 and east-connection taxiway at Soetta Airport.

Budi said besides increasing the aircraft's movement capacity, it also increased flight safety.

"One increases safety through the separation of runways and take offs and landing. Two east cross connection taxiways reduce the risk of taxi blocking. With the operation of runway 3, it can increase capacity to around 100 aircraft movements, from previously 81 movements," explained the Minister.

In addition, according to the Minister of Transportation, with this facility, it can reduce aircraft queues both on land and in the air

"Fourth, reducing the spacing distance between aircraft and five taxi distance from the apron to the taxiway is closer and varied with the presence of an east cross connection, the runway capacity increases," he explained.

The Minister of Transportation continued with the addition of a number of these facilities, especially runway 3 and east connection taxiway, which has provided benefits for airlines such as the Garuda Indonesia airline which has become an airline with the level of on time performance (OTP) or timekeeping number 1 in the world.
