Jakarta - Silangit International Airport is ready to welcome more local and foreign tourists who want to vacation at Lake Toba.
Following that, the aircraft passenger terminal at Silangit Airport will be expanded fivefold or from the current 2,500 square meters to 10,499 square meters.
The expansion of the terminal allows Silangit Airport to accommodate up to 1 million passengers per year, from the moment only around 500,000 passengers.
The number of airplane passengers at Silangit continues to grow significantly every year. In 2016 passenger movements were recorded at 155,214 people, then up 82% in 2017 to 282,586 people.
Then in 2018 passenger movements were recorded at 425,476 people, up 50.56% compared to 2017.
As for the passengers of the aircraft to the Silangit Airport in North Tapanuli, most of them are domestic tourists (foreign tourists) and foreign tourists (foreign tourists).
PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said the terminal expansion was needed because at this time the number of passenger movements had almost touched the existing capacity.
"The terminal at Silangit Airport must be expanded to have a capacity of 1 million passengers per year. Since the Silangit Airport has been revitalized and there are direct flights from Jakarta, tourism in the Lake Toba region has grown quite rapidly, "said Muhammad Awaluddin.
"Silangit Airport is the main access for tourists to travel to Lake Toba which is designated as one of the destinations of 'New Bali'. Therefore, AP II is committed to maintaining and increasing service levels at Silangit Airport through various infrastructure developments. "
In addition to the expansion of the passenger terminal, the runway at Silangit Airport was also developed from 2,400 x 30 m to 2,650 m x 45 m. The development of the runway is nothing else so that the airport can accommodate Boeing 737-800 NG class aircraft.
The aircraft's movements at Silangit Airport itself also always increase from 2,695 (2016), then 3,787 (2017) and 4,878 (2018).
To support airport operations, AP II will also expand its motorized parking area to 8,231 square meters and build a cargo warehouse of 2,250 square meters.
Specifically for cargo movements, in 2016 there were only 12,258 tons, then increased to 121,487 tons (2017) and then around 440,329 tons (2018).
